Carved in rock, the cave is almost rectangular. It is located under the ancient palace which belongs to the Conversano family.
The church has no special architectural feature but is nonetheless a natural beauty. The bare rock and the historical and legendary value of the church, still today contribute to creating a unique atmosphere full of mysticism and magic.
A simple gate marks the space in front of the entrance and introduces the portal, made with blocks of tuff. On the right, a small and humble housing for the bell.
The central altar hosts impressive statues of the three chained Saint brothers. The men stand up, in an erect position. This is a rare representation – maybe the only one - of the three martyrs who are normally depicted seated on thrones. It therefore represents their state of suffering as human beings.
The left side of the altar is instead occupied by a wooden statue of Saint Tecla, a local noble woman who was healed - through the intercession of the Holy martyrs - from a paralysis affecting her legs. With the help of her cousin Alexander, vicar of Tertullo, she secretely looked after the three youn men during their captivity.
The place is not open to the public. It is only open during the days dedicated to the Protectors’ festivity, in May.
