In the Church of the Fountain, on the day when St. Joseph is celebrated - March 19th or the nearest Sunday - a long table laden with 99 dishes is exhibited. The courses are often poor but strongly connected to popular Sicilian tradition. The number of dishes prepared and then shown to the public are 33, symbolising the age of Christ. The presentation of the dishes is also repeated three times, in honor of St. Joseph, the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus to celebrate on this occasion the Holy Family. The dishes prepared by housewives are then offered to poor people. On the same day an auction where bread and other food are sold, takes place in the main square. Earnings go to charity for destitute people.
