In 2016, during the 8th edition of “I Luoghi del Cuore” (Places I love) survey, promoted by FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Bank, the “Lentini nel Cuore” committee was set up. This network of associations, together with the Chiesa Madre Santa Maria La Cava e S. Alfio, collected 3,831 votes in support of the Rupestrian Church of the Crucifix.

This result allowed to participate in the competitive call promoted by FAI to provide some funds to the most deserving places and to obtain €15.000, necessary to start the conservation program of the Church.

The restoration works, started in January 2018, involved the 13th century frescoes depicting “the five Saints”, which were in a very poor state of conservation.

The bound and attention shown by the entire community on this occasion, ensured that the Rupestrian Church of the Crucifix became a symbol of cohesion and cooperation among public institutions, citizens and associations active in our territory. A place of the historical, artistic and religious memory has become a “Place we love” on which the spotlights have been
turned on and today we can hope in its total restoration.
